MR ROGER CLOSE MB ChB FCS (SA) Orth
Mr Close has a special interest in knee replacement surgery for arthritis of the knee, knee ligament reconstruction and arthroscopy.
He attended the University of Cape Town, graduating in 1978. Following National Service as a doctor he returned to Cape Town to train as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Groote Schuur and Red Cross Children’s Hospitals. After completing his training in 1989 he did a Fellowship in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery in Belfast, Northern Ireland, working with Professor RAB Mollen, Mr Richard Nixon and Mr Joe McClelland. After a period in private practice in South Africa he returned to the UK as a Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in 2000.
Mr Close does weekly NHS clinics in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud. His private practice is based at the Winfield Hospital, Gloucester and the Nuffield Health, Cheltenham.
Mr Close is an avid cyclist, hiker and gardener, as well as being a passionate armchair rugby and cricket fan.
